Japanese Long Distance Phone Company Awaits Ruling on Buyout of Colorado Firm.

Aug. 22--NTT Communications Corp. had made no announcement by press time Monday night on whether to extend its $5.5 billion tender offer for Arapahoe County-based Webhosting firm Verio Inc.

The offer, extended from Aug. 14, was set to expire Monday at 10 p.m. MST. NTT is waiting for President Clinton to OK the acquisition, which was recommended for approval by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States.

Verio spokeswoman Mona Peloquin said Monday that NTT could extend the offer to acquire Verio. NTT officials in New York and Japan could not be reached to comment.
