Sep. 14--Madison-based American Home Products Corp. warned Wednesday that certain batches of its Norplant contraceptive may not be effective in preventing pregnancies, and the company has urged women to use backup forms of birth control.
Women who have received Norplant implants from kits distributed to doctors on or after Oct. 20, 1999, should use another non-hormonal method of birth control such as condoms, spermicide, or diaphragms, the company warned in a news release and in a letter to doctors Wednesday.
