Sep. 22--FORT WORTH, Texas--UPS Worldwide Logistics will expand its operations at Alliance Airport after leasing all of the first 320,000-square-foot distribution facility only weeks after its completion.
The subsidiary of United Parcel Service has purchased an additional 24 acres from Ross Perot Jr.'s Hillwood Development Co., and is building a second 400,000-square-foot distribution and technology center at Westport and Independence parkways.
Construction crews are already moving dirt on the second facility, which is scheduled to be complete by mid-2001, company spokeswoman Lynnette McIntire said.
"Our first building was very successful, and we're filling it up," McIntyre said. "We're trying to get ahead of the curve because we see a demand for our services."
The second facility marks UPS' exercise of a portion of its option to buy 80 acres adjacent to its new facility for the construction of a logistics campus, with several operating arms in one office park.
The new facility is next to the company's 320,000-square-foot distribution and technology center that was completed in July. UPS initially purchased 18 acres to build the facility and has an option to buy 56 more adjacent acres.
