Sep. 17--Why do consumers complain about high gasoline prices far more than about high natural gas prices?

Quite a few of you believe that it's because gasoline is a highly visible price. You're aware of how much gasoline is costing you. By contrast, the cost of natural gas is tucked away in a bill that arrives only once a month. If it's out of sight, it's out of mind.

At least, that was the prevalent answer from about 30 readers who took time to respond to last week's column. In that column, I wondered why consumers wailed about the sharp gasoline price spikes earlier this year yet have been largely mute about the recent natural gas price hikes. I asked for …
