Nov. 8--The Ritz-Carlton, one of the most prestigious names in the hotel industry, may be coming to Downtown's cultural district.

The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co., based in Atlanta, is considering a site near Eighth Street and Fort Duquesne Boulevard, two blocks from the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

The land, which would give Ritz-Carlton an unobstructed view of the Allegheny River, is controlled by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.

When asked about the site, Mayor Murphy's spokesman Doug Root said, "I think the Ritz-Carlton people are amenable to it. I think it fits in with the mayor's idea of what should be going …
