Nov. 20--The Texas Railroad Commission is poised to allow TXU Corp. to increase natural gas rates for Dallas residential customers by $3.4 million.
Commercial gas customers in Dallas would see their rates decrease by $800,000 under the rate plan to be considered Monday.
Dallas customers would also foot a $2.2 million bill for costs incurred by TXU and the city in appealing the case to the state agency.
Commission members and the commission staff reached a tentative agreement last week, and commission members will vote on the proposal Monday.
That means the total cost to rate payers would exceed the $3.9 million in rate increases that city staff members and utility officials agreed to last February in a compromise that the City Council rejected.
"We thought we could do better," said council member Barbara Mallory Caraway. "That's the chance you take when you decide to appeal."
