Nov. 20--Efficient Networks Inc. will appoint a new chief executive Monday to replace Mark A. Floyd, who will take the post of chairman.
Bruce W. Brown, an Efficient director and chairman of Vertel Corp. of Woodland Hills, Calif., will take over day-to-day operations to give Mr. Floyd the freedom to craft the Dallas company's larger strategic moves, focusing on its product portfolio and its international business.
The move comes on the heels of a breakthrough year for Efficient, which makes digital subscriber line equipment. Its revenue grew almost 13-fold to $202 million in the year ended June 30 from $14.8 million in 1999.
"The role that I have been playing, quite frankly, is bigger than one person," said Mr. Floyd, who co-founded Efficient in 1993. "I'll be looking at M&A [merger and acquisition] opportunities, working with the financial community, and Bruce will become the CEO and run the company day by day."
Mr. Brown, who is moving to North Texas from Southern California, will retain his seats on both Efficient's and Vertel's boards. He has been on Efficient's board for five years.
"Mark is going to be the hunter and shooter, and I am going to take care of them once they have landed," Mr. Brown, 50, said.
