Nov. 30--A conservation group intervening in Atlantic Renewable Energy Corporation's bid for a permit to develop the East's largest windpower project on a Tucker County mountaintop suggested that the company relocate some of its 80 proposed wind turbines to the north.

The Washington, D.C.-based firm is seeking a Public Service Commission permit to build a seven-mile-long series of power-producing windmills along the summit of Backbone Mountain just east of Thomas.

The $90 million, 75-megawatt project would generate enough electricity to power a city of 25,000.
