Dec. 21--Denver International Airport recorded 20 serious aircraft noise violations in its fifth year of operation, and the increased jet noise could subject the airport to $10 million in fines.
The 20 violations, for the year that ended last Feb. 29, were double the number recorded in DIA's fourth year.
According to an agreement that Denver signed with Adams County before DIA was built, the airport can be assessed a $500,000 fine for each serious noise violation recorded annually.
