Sep. 9--Summertime construction at five schools in Diamond Bar and Pomona was unfinished by the time students arrived Wednesday for the first day sending thousands to construction debris-littered campuses without air conditioning and with fenced- off areas.

The Pomona Unified schools were without electricity until the last minute, according to district officials. Cafeterias remained closed for lunch because they had to house administration offices and furniture.

Elevators were expected to be installed at Lorbeer Middle and Diamond Point and Armstrong elementary schools. The areas remained fenced off Wednesday because the…
