Okay, truth be told, car testing is the most boring thing you can imagine. And it's expensive. Track rental, insurance, catered lunches from In-'n'-Out all add up. And our Datron Correvit testing gear retailed for about $30,000 when it was new back in the 1980s.
If you prefer to spend less, may we suggest Escort's Passport G-Timer.
It is ridiculously simple to use: Plug it into the cigarette lighter, suction-cup it to the windshield, hit the calibration button, then the Timed Run button and stomp on that gas pedal. It gives you 0-to-60-mph, quarter-mile time and speed and a whole bunch of other stuff.
