Sullivan hangs it up
Former Indy 500 winner Danny Sullivan will hang up his helmet at the end of the season. The 53-year-old, who won at Indy in 1985, will retire after the final event of the Le Mans Endurance Series at Spa-Francorchamps in September. Sullivan's decision calls time on a career that started in 1972 and includes a Champ Car title and a year in Formula One. Sullivan, who races a Ferrari 575 GTC for Barron Connor Racing in the LMES, said, "The chance to drive a Ferrari at some great tracks this year has been a lot of fun, but really this is a young guy's game.''
Sullivan said his Brickyard win is his proudest moment, but he cherishes a number of career highlights. "It has to be my victory at Indy, but also winning the Champ Car title, and my fifth place in the 1983 Monaco Grand Prix from the back of the grid,'' he said.
Herbert back to ALMS
Three-time Grand Prix winner Johnny Herbert will return to the American Le Mans Series with the Champion Audi team at the end of the season. The British driver, who is racing in the LMES with the Veloqx Audi team this year, has agreed to drive in October's Laguna Seca finale with the team for which he scored four wins last year. The deal could herald Herbert's full-time return to Champion, which plans to expand to a two-car operation next season.
