Sep. 4--Orders of gems and jewellery at the upcoming Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair is expected to account for one-third of the sector's total exports for all of 2004.
Chantra Purnariksha, the director-general of the Department of Export Promotion, expects total exports of gems and jewellery this year to grow by 15 percent from last year to 115 billion baht.
She said that last year, orders in terms of samples, on-site orders and immediate purchases at the fair accounted for about 30 percent of exports, or 30 billion baht.
