Sep. 4--A lack of information about locally available raw materials has made it difficult for ceramic manufacturers to utilise them fully despite the fact that ceramic products have become one of the country's key export items.
In terms of raw materials, Thailand has 200 million tonnes of white clay, 20.5 million tonnes of ball clay and 5.5 million tonnes of feldspar. But despite the plentiful supply, the local ceramic industry currently imports about six billion baht worth of raw materials per year, especially coating substances that are not produced locally.
