Sep. 7--The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has sharply criticised Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT) for its plan to raise airport charges, warning that it could erode the country's competitiveness in the regional aviation business.
Representatives also expressed strong doubts that Suvarnabhumi International Airport would open next year, saying delays of 12-18 months were more likely.
IATA officials and airline executives met yesterday in Bangkok to discuss local aviation trends, with many criticising AoT as a monopoly that is unreasonable and unhelpful to airlines and related partners.
