Sep. 7--After losing 20 percent of the coming season's citrus crop to Hurricane Charley three weeks ago, the industry took another hit as Hurricane Frances crept across the state.
But while Charley's devastating winds splintered trees and blew oranges to the ground, Frances was kinder.
The center of the storm hit the Indian River citrus district, which stretches from Palm Beach County to Daytona Beach. There are 215,000 acres of commercial orange and grapefruit groves in the district.
