Sep. 3--Media tycoon Paiboon Damrongchaitham yesterday downplayed comments by Deputy Commerce Minister Pongsak Raktapongpisal that the Liverpool football club may be looking to cancel plans to sell a stake in the team.

Mr Pongsak, who handled earlier, aborted negotiations to buy a 30 percent stake in the English Premier League team on behalf of the government, said yesterday that the deal might have hit a snag.

After selling star striker Michael Owen to Spain's Real Madrid for 12 million euros, the English team's money woes may now be resolved, said Mr Pongsak.
