Lending rates to hold until end of 2005, Bank of Thailand says.

Sep. 2--Lending rates at local banks are not expected to increase until the end of 2005, according to M.R. Pridiyathorn Devakula, governor of the Bank of Thailand.
Even though the central bank last week hiked its 14-day repurchase rate by a quarter of a percentage point to 1.5 percent, its first increase in three years, plentiful market liquidity would keep retail rates from climbing for another year.
M.R. Pridiyathorn said strong economic growth, improving private investment trends and high industrial capacity utilisation would lead to stronger loan demand and ease excess liquidity conditions in the market.
