A: DIY highlighting kits are easier than ever to use, so you don't have to spend big bucks to score stunning streaks. We especially like kits that contain a plastic comb to "paint" on the highlights. Try Revlon High Dimension Color Accents Highlighting Kit, $13, Clairol Herbal Essences HighLights, $10, or L'Oreal Couleur Experte, $22. Before you start, thoroughly brush your hair so the comb can glide evenly through your strands, says Giselle, Clairol consultant and colorist at Pierre Michel Salon in NYC.
