2004 SEP 1 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Chiron Corp. (CHIR) announced it has delivered the first 1 million doses of its Fluvirin influenza vaccine to U.S. distributors in preparation for the upcoming influenza season.
The company expects to deliver a total of 52 million doses of Fluvirin to the U.S. market this season through regular shipments over the next few months, including 2 million doses later in the season for a national stockpile held by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This record level of supply represents an increase of more than one-third compared with Fluvirin deliveries during the last influenza season.
"Chiron is committed to protecting millions of people against influenza by increasing the availability of Fluvirin, and vaccine delivery early in the season is an important step in fulfilling this pledge," said Howard Pien, president and chief executive officer of Chiron.
