2004 SEP 1 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Doctors and nurses vaccinated 13,312 children around Louisiana during a three-day drive.
That was more than 12% above last year's 3-day total of 11,846.
The public health region centered in Acadiana vaccinated 2,469 children, more than any of the other eight regions, the Office of Public Health (OPH) reported.
Both this year and last, all OPH clinics gave children immunizations without requiring appointments during the full workday on three consecutive days.
In addition to bringing children up to date on immunizations they will need to enter schools or day care centers and get more toddlers vaccinated. The drive was a test of the state's preparedness for bioterrorism.
