Transoft, a supplier of open systems Business BASIC (BBASIC) and compatible 4GL tools for the Data General and Bluebird SuperDOS markets, has acquired the business of its major competitor, B32 Software (NZ) Ltd. and its U.S. subsidiary, B32 Software (US) Inc. All B32 products and customers have been transferred to Transoft. Transoft has also formed a U.S. Subsidiary, Transoft, Inc., with offices in Atlanta, GA.

According to Mike Edwards, Transoft managing director, the takeover will benefit the customers of bothe companies: "It will enable us to produce an even stronger, compatible product line with integrated 4GL tools, spanning not only DOS and UNIX but also the DG proprietary MV AOS/VS operating system." He adds that Transoft's revenues should increase by 30 percent, with no substantial increase in costs, due to the elimination of duplicated development, sales and support functions.

Murray Haszard, founder and managing director of B32, says B32 would not have agreed to the deal unless it was confident that Transoft would provide the level of support to which B32 customers are accustomed He will be working the Transoft for several months to ensure that both sets of customers obtain maximum product benefit' from the takeover. Additionally, B32 president Felix Decsi will serve in Transoft's Atlanta office as support manager for Transoft.

Currently, there is overlap between the open systems (UNIX and DOS) versions of Transoft's Universal Business BASIC (UBB) and B32's Business BASIC products. However, only B32 offers an AOS/VS version. With Murray's assistance, Transoft will take some of the best features of B32 and merge them into UBB, then phase out the open systems version of B32. Murray will incorporate all the major UBB Rev. 3 features, such as windows and shared subroutines, into the B32 AOS/VS product, so that UBB will become the common, enhanced language standard for both open systems and AOS/VS environments.

The new Atlanta office will handle sales inquiries, product training and support for all North American Transoft customers and will support B32 customers worldwide. Joe Rous, Transoft Account Manager, has relocated to the Atlanta office; he and Decsi will report to Paul Holland, Transoft vice president of operations.
