Former controller of sportswear firm pleads guilty in Washington.

Aug. 25--A former Cutter & Buck controller yesterday pleaded guilty to a federal felony charge for helping the sportswear company overstate sales results and then conceal evidence from auditors.

Athena Diaz, 48, of Sammamish, faces up to a year in prison under a plea agreement approved yesterday by federal Magistrate Judge Monica Benton.

Diaz is to be sentenced in November before U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Zilly. Her sentence may be postponed while she cooperates with law enforcement and the Securities and Exchange Commission, which oversees publicly traded companies.
