Q. This cake is a family favorite. It's easy and inexpensive to make and great for spring and summer occasions. I'm not sure what the calories end up being but I'm sure it's quite a bit. Can you help us?

A. This four-box-and-a-tub cake recipe may horrify all you only-from-scratch bakers out there, but it's a welcome relief to us cut-the-corners cooks. It uses a cake mix, 2 boxes of lemon gelatin, a box of vanilla pudding and a tub of light Cool Whip. If you turn your nose up at whipped topping, and I know who you are, just use fresh whipped cream. Of course, that will make the calories and fat grams go back up a bit.
