Mar. 28--The executive director of the Harris County Children's Assessment Center misused public funds, falsified government documents and used county employees to run personal errands, according to a new report released Tuesday by the county attorney's office.
The allegations, the most recent in a series of controversies involving CAC director Ellen Cokinos this year, have triggered a criminal investigation by the Harris County district attorney's office, and other agencies are launching their own probes.
County Auditor Tommy Tompkins ordered an audit of the center's books Tuesday, and a spokesman for Texas Attorney General John Cornyn said his office also may weigh in.
County Attorney Michael Stafford distributed copies of the report to members of Commissioners Court on Tuesday morning.
