Apr. 4--SHELBY, N.C.--Wal-Mart will build a massive distribution center in Cleveland County, providing an economic boon for a county that's seen 900 jobs dry up in the past 18 months.
Cleveland County commissioners and the Shelby City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a $2.1 million incentive plan to entice the company to move there with its 500 new jobs.
The county will buy 58 acres and transfer them to Wal-Mart. In turn, Wal-Mart will spend $50 million on 300 additional acres, buildings and equipment.
