Apr. 12--In early March, Tom Kinney was just getting a feel for his new job as Austin head of Time Warner Cable when tens of thousands of Road Runner customers lost e-mail services for the better part of a week. The problem angered customers, embarrassed the company and resulted in refunds.

It wasn't much fun for Time Warner employees, either. "The situation was unacceptable," Kinney said Wednesday, the day Time Warner announced his appointment as president of Austin division. "We have already made some changes to make sure this won't happen again."
