Drug Makers Mostly Immune to Cooling Economic Conditions, Analysts Say.

Apr. 12--As the economy cools, buying that new PC can wait, but getting your medicine often can't.

That underlying premise has analysts predicting that most large drug makers will continue to post double-digit profit growth rates this quarter, despite a change in economic conditions that is causing some companies in other industries to flounder.

"Unlike other sectors, consumers are not able to delay the purchase of pharmaceuticals," said Mario Corso, an industry analyst at the firm ABN Amro. "The pharmaceutical industry is insulated in that regard."
