Apr. 25--Wal-Mart, J.C. Penney, McDonald's, Toys "R" Us and Target are among the corporate giants that will be recognized Thursday for something far less visible than their products ... their efforts to hire local people with disabilities.

The San Joaquin County Mayors' Committee for the Employment of People with Disabilities, a nonprofit group of member agencies that provide job training and other services for the disabled, will honor the employers at the group's 16th annual awards breakfast at the Stockton Inn on Waterloo Road.
