Apr. 25--HOME BUILDERS POST INCREASED QUARTERLY EARNINGS: Home builders Pulte Corp. and Del Webb Corp. on Tuesday said quarterly earnings rose sharply as increased sale prices and lower costs produced higher margins.
Pulte, based in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., reported first-quarter operating earnings of $39.1 million, or 91 cents per share, compared with $24.3 million, or 57 cents, a year before.
Net income for the quarter was $39.4 million, or 92 cents per share. Pulte, the No. 3 builder in Las Vegas with 855 homes sold in 2000, told Reuters the average sales price of its homes went up 9 percent.
