The implementation of a 170[pounds] million central distribution network has enabled Asda to reduce its distribution costs to less than 3 per cent of turnover and improve product availability in its 205 stores.

This was the key message delivered by John Galloway, distribution and logistics director for Asda stores at the recent Exel Logistics Distribution Forum in London. He continued:

In the last year, central distribution has played an

essential part in improving productivity, with 80

per cent of food volume now being carried by the
