Jul. 25--Following an aggressive expansion involving one billion baht, SF Cinema City Co is poised for top-three status among local cinema chains.

Toward the end of this year, the firm expects to have a total of 46 screens in operation with 10,000 seats.

Ticket sales are expected to jump to 8-10 million from 1.5 million from the six-screen Mahboonkrong shopping centre.

Entertain Golden Village, the country's largest cinema chain, runs 88 screens with a total of 22,000 seats.

The other player, Major Cineplex co, operates six movie complexes -- five in Bangkok and one in Chiang Mai -- with a total of 50 screens and 17,400 seats.

By the end of next year Major will have 80 screens and 26,000 seats with the opening of the Rangsit and Central Rama II cinemas.
