Jul. 25--Flight competition on the Bangkok-Kuala Lumpur route is set to grow more intense with All Nippon Airways (ANA) re-entering the sector, challenging Thai Airways International, the major player.
ANA this week resumed flights that had been temporarily suspended in March due to insufficient aircraft to rotate and service the Japanese carrier's flights in the region.
ANA has re-entered the sector offering new discount airfares that are likely to take business away from the Thai national carrier and Malaysia Airlines, which also operates on the sector, and attract Japanese business people and tourists.
ANA's ticket price undercuts most other airlines by 5-10 percent , 7,700 baht for a round-trip economy class ticket, an offer which is valid until September.
The fare might change if circumstances change, said Nobushi Yamamoto, sales manager in ANA's Bangkok office.
For the time being, ANA would be happy to fill 55 percent of its seats on the route, he said.
