Jul. 17--Your tax rebate letter is on the way -- at last!
The Internal Revenue Service said late yesterday that it has begun mailing notices to 112 million taxpayers that provide detailed, personalized information about the coming federal income tax rebates.
The notices are sure to clear up some of the confusion about the rebate process that readers have raised through questions to MoneyLine in recent weeks.
The rebates are the result of a big tax-cutting bill that was approved by Congress May 26 and signed into law by President Bush June 7.
In general, the most you can get is $300 if you're single, $500 if you're a single parent (or otherwise filed your 2000 tax return as "head of household"), or $600 if you're married and filed a joint federal income tax return.
