Jul. 28--A Madison company that makes sophisticated analytical x-ray systems filed with federal securities regulators Friday to hold an initial public offering it hopes will raise as much as $100 million.

Bruker AXS Inc. sells products for three types of x-ray technologies to biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies and material sciences concerns like semiconductor manufacturers, according to the filing. Its client list includes companies around the world such as British Petroleum, General Electric, Heidelberger Cement, IBM, Merck and Samsung.
