Jul. 27--Toshiba (Thailand) says it will shift its marketing focus to information technology products, from home electrical appliances, because demand is stagnant.
The company is conducting a feasibility study to expand its business lines to new areas such as computers and mobile phones which offer good business potential compared with current sales of television sets, refrigerators and rice cookers.
The plan is in line with Toshiba Corporation's strategy in Japan, where it is pouring 70-80 percent of its budget into IT related-business this year.
Hiroshi Oshige, president of Toshiba (Thailand) Co, said the market for liquid crystal display (LCD) projectors was recording continuous growth because the equipment was being widely used in government agencies, schools and offices.
Heavy competition has pushed down prices as more LCD products are being ordered to replace ageing overhead projectors.
Last year the total market for LCD projectors was valued at 550 million baht or 2,000 units. Sales this year are forecast to increase to 2,500 units.
