Jul. 26--Thailand's exports in the first six months of this year reached US$32.78 billion, a drop of 0.25 percent year-on-year.
Imports in the same period totalled $31.59 billion, up 9.7 percent , narrowing the country's trade surplus to $1.18 billion, said Commerce Minister Adisai Bodharamik.
Exports in June alone were $5.56 billion, down 0.7 percent from the same month last year while imports were $4.84 billion, a decline of 11.5 percent .
Mr Adisai said he was not worried by the trend as the entire region had been hit hard by the global economic downturn.
Exports from China in June fell by 0.6 percent year-on-year, the first such decline in 20 months. Exports by South Korea in June dropped by 13 percent year-on-year. Taiwan posted a 16 percent decline, the Philippines 18 percent and Malaysia 9 percent .
