Jul. 26--The government should press forward with fundamental restructuring to help boost the country's competitiveness, according to Jayasankar Shivakumar, outgoing country director of the World Bank.
A restructuring package should include aspects of governance, human resources and the environment, he said.
On the social front, the government should look to boost the quality of education and wealth, especially in the Northeastern region, so that wealth redistribution was improved.
Mr Shivakumar, who will complete his four-year term and return to Washington on Aug 1, said the current government deserved praise in its intention to continue reforms.
"The government has moved in the right direction. What I want to see is that it moves faster with the country's restructure," he said in a speech to the Foreign Correspondents Club.
