Thailand Plans to Market Some Unique Goods in Trade Network.

Aug. 4--Goods different from those made under the One Tambon, One Product and village fund projects will be marketed under a separate network as part of the Thailand Plaza concept.
"The goods eligible for the network must be of good quality or unique. The products may be those produced by villagers but in need of upgrading in quality, or those newly produced in remote areas," said Suranant Vejajiva, a Thai Rak Thai list-member MP who is involved in the planning. The committee of public and private sector figures is chaired by Staporn Kavitanon, the former secretary-general of the Board of Investment.
Consumer reaction to some products new to the market will be tested first in local communities and then in the cities before export is considered, However, in the case of some products, such as mulberry or saa paper, that are well known internationally, exports can go ahead immediately. Mr Suranant said that there was little public awareness of many products and the producers would have to launch promotions.
