Aug. 4--Thailand's exports this year could shrink 2.6 percent in value if the economies of the United States and Japan, major buyers of electronic products, remain dormant in the second half, according to Banphot Hongthong, director-general of the Export Promotion Department.
Exports of computers and their parts, as well as other electronic goods, could reduce overall export value to US$68 billion or 3.09 trillion baht, he said.
The department yesterday held discussions with 16 groups of exporters that provide 80 percent of the country's exports.
They agreed that the drop in shipment values in the first six months stemmed from external factors, mainly the sluggish world economy.
