Thailand Budget Planners Must Focus More on Strategy and Goals, Official Says.

Aug. 2--State budget planning must be re-evaluated with a new focus on "mission and strategy", according to Finance Minister Somkid Jatusripitak.
He told 160 senior Finance Ministry officials yesterday that department heads had to play a lead role in initiating projects as part of the planning process.
"Thailand has been unfortunate to have to meet the economic crisis together with the changes in the global environment," Dr Somkid said.
"But we need to address both problems. If the economy is not strong, then we might not recover if we meet another storm.
"Thailand had enjoyed over a decade of strong economic growth but failed to consider that the country's fundamentals remained weak, Dr Somkid said.
