Aug. 2--The Thai government proposes making the country the centre of a supply chain network for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (Apec) group.
The supply chain management centre would link the operations of different players in product distribution channels among small businesses in the 21 Apec countries, according to Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
Mr Thaksin was speaking at the Apec-SME 2001 Conference on strategic alliances for efficient supply chain management, which drew 500 participants in Bangkok yesterday.
He said the centre would gather comprehensive data about SMEs in Apec countries in order to serve major manufacturers worldwide who needed supplies and support services.
