Aug. 2--The Laotian satellite operator, Asia Broadcasting and Communications Network Co, will select one of five companies as its partner for the L-Star satellite project.
The company expects to make its choice by the end of this year.
Chief operating officer Jrarat Pingklasai said the five were selected from a list nominated by the company's main shareholders.
International Engineering Plc and United Communications Industry Plc had each proposed two companies, with Laos suggesting some leading telecommunications operators in Asia, Europe and the United States.
Mr Jrarat said proposals from venture capital firms were rejected because their purpose was to make a quick profit.
The new partner would be required to invest US$200 million (about 9.2 billion baht) to ensure progress in the satellite's construction.
