Aug. 6--The Thai version of National Geographic magazine has been so well received that the local publisher has increased the print run of the next issue to 150,000 from 100,000 for the first issue.
Amarin Printing and Publishing Plc, one of the country's largest publishers, said more than 80 percent of the copies of the first edition had been sold and many bookstores had run out of supplies.
Clerks at Chula Book Centre and Dokya Siam Square said sales of the magazine were healthy due to its widely recognised title and attractive stories.
"Its success has been beyond our expectations. The company is very happy with the great response from the market," said Rarin Utakapan, vice-president for marketing and public relations at Amarin. "The company believes its huge success comes from its stories with simple language, beautiful pictures, printing quality and its imported brand. Most importantly, anybody can read it."
She said an increase of 50,000 copies next month would match market demand and also keep the title highly visible on news-stands for promotion.
