Aug. 22--GASTONIA, N.C.--Gaston County commissioners said Tuesday they will approve plans for a county visitors center in Belmont -- a project that will cost about $600,000 in county tourism funds to get started.
Some commissioners asked during the work session whether the county's tourism money would be better spent on projects luring visitors to the county instead of capturing ones already passing through. But by the end of the night, most said they would approve the plans at their regular meeting Thursday.
The project, pitched by two private citizens, would be a private-public venture.
