Aug. 21--Two groups hoping to get some of the $900,000 Gaston County tourism officials are divvying up this year are criticizing a proposal to spend the bulk of the money on a county visitors center.
Gaston County commissioners have the final say on where the money goes. They'll be asked tonight to allocate $600,000 for a county visitors center off Interstate 85 near Belmont Abbey College -- a project the county's Travel & Tourism Advisory Board has already voted to support.
