Q. We are planning a trip to San Francisco and have never visited California before. What time of year will be warmest in San Francisco?
Any information on the city will be appreciated. We are a couple in our 60s. _ N.W., Pompano Beach, Fla.
A. You could not have made a better choice for your first trip to California. San Francisco is a gorgeous city.
September is the warmest month, with an average high temperature of 74 and a low of 54. July and August average highs are 72, lows 54. The nicest weather is late summer to November, after which the winter rain and, later, fog set in.
Bay Area weather, however, is hard to predict, and you might start the day in short sleeves but need a jacket by afternoon. It's never really cold, unless you consider the high 50s of January, the coldest month, to be frigid.
