New Bus Pact Urged in East Brunswick, N.J.

Aug. 25--EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J.--For more than 20 years, Suburban Transit Corp. has been providing bus service for the township's Manhattan-bound commuters.

But the New Brunswick-based company's contract expires on Sept. 30, and the township administrator recommended yesterday that the Township Council award service of East Brunswick's two commuter lots to Academy Bus Inc., Suburban's Hoboken-based competitor.

Besides lower fares, Academy would offer commuters a monthly pass, something Suburban has never done.

"Based upon the proposals submitted, the proposal by Academy will result in a lower cost for (commuters)," …
