Sep. 7--Thai leathergoods producers plan to show foreign buyers that Thailand can be a trendsetter in the industry, supplying high quality products.
They will pool their efforts to promote the industry at Bangkok International Leather Fair (BIL) 2001, to be held from Oct 10 to 14 at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre.
Songchai Saisavetvaree, the deputy director-general of the Export Promotion Department, said that Thai leathergoods companies supplied many international brands for some years but it was time for the country to promote the strengths of Thai designers, especially as a Thai designer had won first prize for shoe design from an Italian fashion house.
Yuthachai Watanapanich won the award at Salvatore Ferragamo's second competition for young designers. His creation, folding shoes that combined techniques borrowed from traditional Thai banana-leaf packaging with a modern shoe structure, will be on display at the fair, along with the ...
