Sep. 7--Chief executives of Thailand-based firms credited as model employers cite the training of middle managers as one of the most important issues facing businesses in Thailand as well as people development in general.
The Best Employers in Asia study was conducted by the global management consultancy Hewitt Associates, in conjunction with The Asian Wall Street Journal and the Far Eastern Economic Review.
Other key issues of concern for Thailand-based chief executives were empowering people to handle problem-solving and decision-making, and the ability to work as a team.
The 10-country study covered 355 organisations from which 92,000 employees contributed data.
The participating organisations represented 26 industry sectors.
The study did not include Japan but it did research key personnel challenges facing Japanese businesses and the manpower practices used to address the issues.
Shanghai's Portman Ritz-Carlton Hotel topped the list of the 20 Best Employers in Asia, excluding Japan. Agilent Technologies Singapore Pte Ltd came second and the Ritz-Carlton Millenia Hotel in Singapore placed third.
